Trucks for Change Unites Trucking Industry to Fight Child Hunger with Summer Food Pack Program
TORONTO: May 20, 2025 – Led by the Trucks for Change Network (T4C), a team of over 70 volunteers from 12 network trucking and supplier organizations came together last week to join Food Banks Canada’s After the Bell initiative to help assemble food packs for distribution to kids this summer when school lunch and snack programs they rely on are paused.
The Trucks for Change Network is an official partner of the annual After the Bell program, which will distribute 215,000 food packs to help 26,875 kids this summer. The T4C volunteers assembled and palletized 4,200 food packs in just under two hours.
The trucking industry’s commitment to social impact continues to thrive under the Trucks for Change banner, with volunteer participation up 35% this year—70 volunteers up from 52 last year.
“This event unites people across the trucking sector in a unique way,” says Betsy Sharples, Executive Director, Trucks for Change Network. “Network members usually experience Trucks for Change from the perspective of moving freight, and this hands-on experience helps them connect with the cause on a personal level—working side by side with industry colleagues to pay it forward and demonstrate the real and collective power of the Trucks for Change Network.”
Beyond packing food, T4C Network carrier partner, JD Smith volunteered a certified forklift operator to help unload trucks, stage product for packing, and load trailers for shipments moving directly to food banks and, warehouse staff to help with wrapping/checking pallets prior to loading for trucks destined across the country.
