17 Street Bridge Replacements over Yellowhead Trail

The City of Edmonton will begin replacing the 17 Street NW bridges over Yellowhead Trail in Fall 2026. The project will require a full closure of 17 Street between Hayter Road and 116 Avenue, with detours and temporary traffic restrictions in place throughout construction. Members are encouraged to review the project details and plan accordingly for potential impacts to operations and travel routes.
17 Street Bridge Replacements over Yellowhead Trail
The City of Edmonton is replacing both 17 Street (NW) bridges over eastbound and westbound Yellowhead Trail as they have reached the end of their service lives.
The project includes:
● Replacement of the two 17 Street Northwest Bridges
● Repaving along 17 Street between 116 Avenue NW and Hayter Road NW
● Construction of temporary crossovers on Yellowhead Trail to accommodate construction
(completed in 2025)
Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2026. A bulletin with more specific details on the construction timeline will be distributed in advance.
The replacement of the two 17 Street Northwest Bridges will require a full closure of 17 Street between Hayter Road and 116 Avenue.
During construction, traffic will be rerouted via nearby interchanges or temporary crossovers on Yellowhead Trail.
In addition, there may be temporary speed and lane restrictions on Yellowhead Trail, both eastbound and westbound, to enhance safety.
The project team will hold an information session before the start of construction. Details will be forthcoming.
