Course Description:
Fundamentals of Investigation (FOI) is a foundational course that provides an introductory overview of legally defensible investigations in Alberta’s transportation sector. Participants will work through real-world scenarios and practice the full investigative process. Key topics addressed in this course include:
- Investigative terms and definitions
- Investigation note-taking and biases
- Provincial and federal investigative requirements
- Reporting requirements
FOI has been designed to help entry to intermediate level transportation professionals develop the knowledge and skills to be successful at the following:
- Understanding of key terms
- Understanding the nuances of provincial vs. federal requirements
- Understanding the scope of the investigative process and the order of activities when conducting an investigation
- Writing factual, investigative notes without including personal bias
