Course Description:

Collision Investigation (CI) provides participants with a systematic process for responding to collisions, gathering evidence, determining the sequence of events, analyzing root cause(s), and developing recommendations for improvement arising from the investigation. This awareness-level course provides participants the opportunity to practice their knowledge and skills across several exercises and activities. Key topics addressed in this course include:

  • Collision Response
  • Evidence Collection
  • Sequence of events
  • Root cause(s)
  • Improvement outcomes

 

CI has been designed to help entry and intermediate-level professionals develop the knowledge and skills to be successful at the following:

 

  • Understanding the difference between enforcement and risk mitigation
  • Planning and initiating an investigative response to a collision event
  • Collecting and preserving evidence and information to support a collision investigation
  • Determining the sequence of events related to a collision event
  • Determining the root cause of a collision event to uncover the preventable actions 
  • Recommending corrective actions in response to a collision event
