May 2024 Driver of the Month: Chris Muench, Sobeys

Bio submitted

Chris has actually spent much of his career sitting behind a desk. From marketing, to procurement, to managing, he’s seen his fair share of desktops and pencil pushing.

After 20 years of sitting in an office chair, he had an opportunity to combine his marketing talents with driving a big rig and never looked back. Travelling all over Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia he fell in love with the open road.

That was 2012 and within the year Chris was working for a small independent truck company. Working closely with the owner and putting his management skills to use, Chris helped to build the company before moving to Sobeys in 2017.

At Sobeys, he initially spent much of his time planning, dispatching, training, and representing the Union as a Shop Steward though now, he focuses primarily on driving.

Chris would say that he is not your traditional truck driver but rather a typical modern professional driver. “Our industry is made up of so many good people that started driving unexpectedly and loved it. I’m definitely one of them!”

If you ever happen to see Chris around, you can be sure he’ll be approachable and in good spirits as he never has a bad day working for Sobeys (his own words).
