The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is bringing together nationally recognized safety experts, officials from the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and others for 2, powerful, one-day safety conferences specifically designed for the truck and bus industries.

In Alberta’s uncertain business environment and climate of downsizing, fleet safety professionals and transportation managers are under increasing pressure to find efficient ways to stay abreast of key safety and compliance issues, and protect workers through staff development. This conference delivers a solid day of learning and information sharing with highly acclaimed industry experts.

Line-up of keynote speakers:

Grant Aune, Advantage Fleet Services   Declared an expert court witness, this retired 24-year veteran RCMP officer is one of Canada’s leading authorities in commercial vehicle collision reconstruction. Aune’s presentation delivers fresh insight into pressing issues affecting commercial drivers. Attendees will take away helpful tips and techniques to address high-risk behaviours such as unsafe speed, distraction and non-use of seat belts. “Driving as an art rather than an act”, says Aune, whose presentation will also reference the critical role visual search patterns play in safety.

Spencer Beach  Burn survivor, safety expert, internationally acclaimed speaker and best-selling author of In Case of Fire, Spencer Beach’s story will astound and inspire you. The third generation flooring installer endured a horrific flash fire that left him permanently and severely scarred. After spending 14 months in the hospital, and a year more in rehabilitation, he has devoted his life to delivering a powerful message that will never be forgotten.

Chris Davis, Program Manager at Enform, has over twenty years’ experience in heavy haul and modular moving operations and management. Multiple health and safety designations, time spent as the chair of the Oilfield Driver Certification Committee and volunteer roles on industry and community safety initiatives demonstrate his dedication to improving health and safety in the oil and gas industry. Chris will address the top three causes of injury in Western Canada’s oil and gas industry: Overexertion, Slips, Trips and Falls, and Struck by an Object. Attendees will learn about the types of injuries that occur in these categories within the heavy transportation sector and will leave with practical strategies to avoid these common injuries.

Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) Alberta – How does modified work affect employers’ WCB premiums?  Listen to this expert who will share important information about protecting workers and your bottom-line.

The conference theme is, “Safety, A Mind Set Not a Concept.” The information packed agenda and impressive list of  trade show participants provide an exceptional opportunity to gain information and build contacts.
