2015 Provincial Truck Driving Championship: Alberta Celebrates Driving Excellence

Forty-five of the province’s top professional truck drivers, many with millions of kms of collision-free driving, participated in the Alberta Professional Truck Driving Championship on June 20 (Westerner Park, Red Deer). The exciting, day-long competition closed with an awards dinner attended by over 240 competitors, their families, and supporters.

Red Deer’s Westerner Park was where contestants competed in five classes (straight truck, single-single, single-tandem, tandem-tandem and B-train) and were tasked with completing a written knowledge exam, a pre-trip inspection and took their turn on the driving course behind the wheel.

The day got underway with a pancake breakfast and then competitors were off to complete evaluated tasks in three different areas.

Each competitor completed a written exam that tests drivers’ knowledge of regulations, legislation, safety, security, and first aid.  They participated in a pre-trip inspection conducted under the watchful eye of an examiner.

Competitors also had a turn behind the wheel as the driving portion of the event got underway. Each entrant demonstrated their driving skill as they completed seven obstacles that tested their ability to maneuver the vehicle in simulations of some of the toughest conditions drivers’ cope with on the road.

As competitors took turns showing offer their talent and skill, stadium stands filled with family, friends and fans who cheered them on.

The day wrapped up with an awards banquet attended by 250 guests where all participants were celebrated and final placings announced.

Thank you!  AMTA extends thanks to participants, event volunteers and sponsors who made the day possible.
