TILMA Results
in Benefits for Alberta Fleets
The Trade,
Investment and Labour Marketing Agreement between
Alberta and
British Columbia
has shown positive results for commercial transportation between
the two provinces.
As many of the changes deal with behind the scenes operations
and issues in government, many in the trucking industry are
unaware of the changes resulting from TILMA.
After contacting several departments, the
AMTA has obtained information on some of the changes that
benefit our industry:
-
Carriers in
both provinces now benefit equally from the provisions of
the Canadian Agreement for Vehicle Registries (CAVR).
-
BC is adopting
the 11,794 kg GVW weight threshold
for Hours of Service compliance.
-
Alberta
has approved the use of a specific type of passenger vehicle
used in the BC Forestry Industry.
-
Heavy Duty
Trailer Mechanic and Trailer Technician certification is
recognized equally in both provinces.
-
Some
mechanical inspection, repair and parts standards are now
the same in both provinces.
-
Alberta
has removed the sunset restrictions for non-TAC
trailers as had been previously been done by BC and Saskatchewan.
AMTA
will continue to monitor the progress of the
TILMA agreement with BC and have been consulted for input
and involvement regarding the recent agreement with Saskatchewan and will keep the industry
informed.
For more information, visit the TILMA
website at www.tilma.ca
or you can contact the various government departments that
oversee them.
