April 28 is the National Day of Mourning
Each year on this
date, we remember and honour the sacrifice made by Alberta workers who have lost their lives as
a result of workplace injury or illness.
Last year, there
were 110 workplace fatalities in
Alberta, and for those left behind, life
will never be the same
On April 28, take a
moment to remember someone you know who was hurt or became sick.
Have a moment of silence for those who have died. Let’s not only
honour them, but also learn from them.
There are other
things you can do to mark this important day:
- fly a flag at half mast
- hold an extra safety meeting and discuss ways to improve
safety
- display the day of mourning posters (available free from
WCB, see link below)
- attend a day of mourning ceremony in your local community
- post a tribute on your website
- take a minute of silence at 11:00 am on April 28th
